Meet Your Hypnotherapist – Elaine Cormack

My name is Elaine, I am a qualified hypnotherapist and a Member of the National Hypnotherapy Society. I am on the National Hypnotherapy Society's Accredited Register programme, a programme set up by the Government to ensure high standards and safety for the benefit of the public. The register has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

What are the Benefits of Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy provides many benefits to those seeking assistance. It can be an effective tool for:

  • Managing and reducing stress and anxiety

  • Overcoming phobias and fears

  • Building self-confidence and resilience

  • Breaking free from unhealthy habits such as smoking, overeating, or procrastination

By helping to rewire negative thought patterns, hypnotherapy supports healthier behaviours and a more positive outlook.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed yet focused state of awareness – often called a trance. In this state, your mind becomes more open and responsive to positive suggestions because the usual “chatter” of the conscious mind is quieter. This allows us to work with the subconscious, where patterns, habits, and beliefs are stored.

By accessing this part of the mind, hypnotherapy can help reframe unhelpful thoughts, reduce fear responses, and encourage healthier behaviours. It’s not about losing control; rather, it’s about gaining greater control over your own mind and responses in a safe, supportive way.

A Brief History of Hypnotherapy

ree

Hypnotherapy has a long history of successful use, dating back thousands of years. Ancient cultures, including the Egyptians and Greeks, practiced forms of hypnosis and trance states for healing and spiritual purposes.

Modern hypnotherapy is now recognised as an established and effective therapeutic approach, working alongside other talking therapies. Its effectiveness is supported by scientific research and endorsed by reputable organisations such as the British Psychological Society.

What Can Hypnotherapy Help With?

Today, hypnotherapy is widely used to address a range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and stress management

  • Phobias and fears such as flying, public speaking, or driving tests

  • Addictions and habit change (e.g. smoking, alcohol, or nail-biting)

  • Weight management and emotional eating

  • Improved sleep and relaxation

  • Chronic pain management

  • Performance enhancement in sports, exams, and work
